Bring Books for Children;
Receive Chances to Win

The Philadelphia SHRM takes pride in supporting local organizations that continue to support their chapter; therefore, we want to donate tons of books to the children of CHOP to assist in the effort of reaching out to read.  For every child’s book you bring to this event aged birth to 12 years, new or slightly used, the Philadelphia SHRM team will give you chances to walk home with some great prizes (exact items pending). You will receive one chance per book you bring - that’s right if you bring 20 books you receive 20 free chances.

All book donations to benefit the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Reach Out and Read program.  The mission of Reach Out and Read is to make literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading.  Every year, the pediatricians, residents and nurse practitioners at Children’s Hospital's Reach Out and Read sites reach over 16,000 children, ages 6 months to 5 years, and their families.

The Reach Out and Read Model is as follows:

  • In the exam room at a Reach Out and Read site, the pediatrician or nurse practitioner encourages parents to read aloud to their young children and offers age-appropriate tips.
  • At well-child visits (check-ups), the pediatrician or nurse practitioner gives every child 6 months to 5 years of age a new, developmentally and culturally appropriate children’s book to take home and keep.
  • In the waiting room, displays, information and gently used books create a literacy rich environment. Where possible, volunteer readers engage the children with books, modeling for the parents the pleasures-and techniques-of reading aloud.
Please note: Once you submit your registration for processing,
there are no refunds.
