Event Overview:
In a time of uncertainty, managing one’s career can be a difficult task even for seasoned professionals—many of whom have not been on the job market for several years. Nevertheless, objectively examining one’s position and the climate of the job market is crucial to making the best of difficult times.
In this session, we will examine some of the career choices available to and take a closer look at the opportunities that exist for experienced HR professionals. More specifically, we will explore how seasoned professionals can manage job transitions, change industries or specializations, and redirect their careers to capitalize on their HR backgrounds. Moreover, we will explore a different perspective on networking strategies and learn to better understand our role and responsibility in creating and managing a professional network.
With topics such as these and exploration of stay or leave decision making, everyone is sure to walk away with new perspectives and tools on how to manage one’s mature career and make tough decisions in tough times.
Session #1: How HR Professionals can Manage a Seasoned Career to Capitalize on their Experience
The first part of our program will focus on an overview of a process to use when making career decisions as a seasoned HR professional in tough economic times. Hear how HR careerists can manage job transitions, change industries or specializations and redirect their careers to capitalize on their HR backgrounds. Discuss how to monitor the HR field for trends that will affect your future. Learn how to evaluate your current situation and decide whether to stay or leave for another opportunity.

Session #2: Designing your Professional Network
In this session, we will identify the keys to successful networking. We will challenge the current mainstream understanding of and learn to approach ones professional network as a Network Engineer. We will explore best practices on identifying, engaging, and leveraging existing networks including understanding one’s value, developing a 30 second speech, and utilizing the proper “equipment.” Finally, participants will be given an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to their specific situation and walk away with a newfound understanding of how to effectively create and maintain a professional network.
